Dexter’s Half Dozen

Dexter’s Half Dozen is a 9 Issue Arc about a group of rag-tag WWII soldiers who fight supernatural beings like werewolves, hordes of the undead, and a tentacled she-devil. The Nazis are not only the Nazi’s we know and hate, but these Nazi’s also have a growing occult threat.
Hitler’s minions have vampires, ghouls, ghosts, undead, werewolves and demonic beings. Inevitably, our heroes are trying to save earth from being taken over by occult loving Nazi villains.
In the spirit of Mike Mignola’s BPRD and Hellboy Series, Dexter’s Half Dozen has the old timey feel of 1930’s/1940’s Europe. The lack of technology and being in constant contact gives it this feeling of permanent isolation.
The story is interesting enough, although I do feel the arc was done before somewhere. Dexter’s Half-Dozen seemed to be predictable or unremarkable, but it was enough to hold my attention and made me want more. Sometimes this is all you need in a comic. Some of the inks were beautiful, like the tentacled demon woman and the hanging, disemboweled woman. The images and placement of the subjects in the frame created an unforgettable image in my head.
One of the best characters is a hulking brute named “Shit House,” primarily because am entertained by him. He is physically, gigantic and we root for him because he’s the guy we want on our side. Whether or not Adams can have his “disease” be cured is how the series ends.
