For those who have been wondering if you should get a movie pass and how it actually works in the real world. Here are some screen shots of the app and some pictures of the ticket machine at the theater. There are a few things you should know. Here are the Pros and Cons.
The Cons
- You need to be within 100 yards of the theater to reserve a ticket.
- You need to be within an hour of the movie you want to see.
- The movie can’t be a 3D movie or special event. I can only be a regular 2D movie.
- Reserving a ticket only last an hour.
- You can’t get more than 1 movie a day. Even though you get 1 movie a day, you can’t get more than one pass (as in for 2 people) for the same movie or the same day with the same card.
- It might take a few weeks to get the Movie Pass card but they don’t start charging until the first time you use the card.
The Pros
- It’s $10 a month but with that you get to 1 free movie a day, every day for the month.
- If you go watch even 1 movie a month, this pays for itself so I’m not sure what you are waiting for.
- Sometimes they do a discount for a year subscription which made it about $7 a month and the same rules still applied. It was actually $89.95 a year. I’m not sure if and when that will happen again. But it does go back to the regular price after a year.
- Here is the BIG PRO. You can watch movies that just came out. I don’t mean that just came out the week before or a few days ago. I mean the movie that came out that day. I have watched Thor and Justice League, both on the days they came out. Now of course there still have to be tickets available. And you do have to make it to the theater and get the pass from the machine before the movie sells out.
- No blackout dates
- Once a movie ticket is reserved, you can’t reserve another movie… but you can reserve another movie once the hour is over or you unreserve the first movie.
- Here is another BIG PRO. Since Movie Pass is actually paying full price for the movie… you can use your movie rewards card. That’s right. You can use your Movie rewards card that your theater has and get your points…. so you get free popcorn, drinks or whatever else they give as a bonus.

This is a screen shot from the ticket machine at a Edwards Theater. This is the first screen before you even do anything. You pick “Purchase Tickets Today”
Then the movie you want.
Next you pick which version of the movie you want.
Then you get to pick the time.
This is where you would swipe your Movie Rewards Card, otherwise you just skip it.
You can only use Movie Pass for one ticket so even if you have more than one card, you have to do one at a time. Increase the number to 1 and then click Next.
Review the movie and time you wanted. then click on the Credit Card Option.
Swipe your Movie Pass Card.
Once you swipe your Credit Card you just wait for your tickets to print and you’re done. Enjoy your movie.

Con #2 isn’t always the case. I bought my 8:30pm showing of JL at 2pm the day of. I think it just might get flagged if it turns into a habit of doing that.
What about shows where you pre choose your seats? Can I purchase my ticket through fandango with the card?
No but at fandango but you can reserve at some places
I worded my question wrong. Can I purchase the ticket online with the card or do I have to be on site to pick up my tickets?
