The Simple Difference Between the Tesla Model S and the Tesla Model 3 by someone who both owns a Model S and reserved the Model 3.
The S Model is the premium full-size version, so it’s faster, has longer range, more space to carry people, your stuff and will probably get more advanced Autopilot features and hardware first.
The 3 Model is supposed to be more mid-sized (think Honda Accord) and won’t be as fast or have as much range (at least for the base model, there’ll be higher performance trims)
For most people, it’s a no brainer – you get most of the benefits in the Model 3 at a much lower price point.
Other things to know are that deposit is fully refundable so if I change my mind it’s not really a problem. Current Tesla owners get reservation priority apparently so I figured why not!
My car – Model S 90D:
285 miles max charge
0 to 60 in about 3.8 seconds (faster than the Tesla website claims)
Enough space for 5 adults to ride along with all their luggage to go on a long-distance trip.
Upcoming Model 3 (at least the base model):
215 miles max charge
0 to 60 in under 6 seconds (I will guess 5.5 seconds)
Enough space for 5 adults to quote “ride comfortably” but I’m sure it’s not as wide as the Model S, so interior space will be a little tighter. Cargo area is probably quite a bit smaller too (but still big)

Something else to know….
The World’s Fastest Charging Station (Per the Tesla Website)
Superchargers are free connectors that charge Model S in minutes instead of hours. Stations are strategically placed to minimize stops during long distance travel and are conveniently located near restaurants, shopping centers, and WiFi hot spots. Each station contains multiple Superchargers to help you get back on the road quickly.
